TOKYO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–FreeBit™ Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:3843) announced today that ServersMan®@iPhone 4.0β and ServersMan®@Android 4.0β, a new cloud server application for iPhones and Android phones, is now available as a free download on App Store in 90 countries and on Android Market (TM) worldwide.

After about ten months of development focused on meeting almost 100 percent of needs of users around the world, the ServersMan®@iPhone 4.0β and ServersMan®@Android 4.0β updates are the largest to date and ServersMan®@iPhone 4.0β supports iOS 4.3.

As a result, ServersMan®4.0β provides services continuously. As the name “ServersMan” suggests, it is a “True Cloud Server in a pocket” and achieves 50% lower power consumption than previous versions. By supporting Open APIs, third-party vendors will be able to develop iPhone and Android /Web applications compatible with ServersMan® by means of simple html and JavaScript.

Primary functions of ServersMan®4.0β are as follows:

1. Background Processes and Power Saving-Compliance; ServersMan Turns iPhones and Android phones Into “True Portable Servers”

One of the biggest features of ServersMan®@iPhone 4.0β is support for background processes of iOS 4, and significant improvements in the core server module that reduce battery consumption by 50%. In consequence, ServersMan®@iPhone can be operated at all times as a “True Cloud Server in a pocket.”

Previous versions of ServersMan® App had to be restarted every time they where used. However, because the updated 4.0β version runs continuously as a background process, users can access ServersMan® at any time. This for example enables users to exchange files between friends easily.

As for ServersMan®@Android 4.0β, previous versions already supported background processing, however this update reduces power consumption and guarantees longer operation times.

2. Equipped with “ServersMan® Shell@iPhone/Android” Cloud Shell Application;

Seamless Collaboration with Other ServersMan® Devices

ServersMan® allows for seamless access to other devices on which ServersMan® has been installed. For example, users can access and exchange files with their home PCs from iPhones and Android phones from anywhere.

Furthermore, it is possible to access public directories of friend’s devices in order to upload photographs or other files.

ServersMan®@Desktop’s latest version supports ServersMan®4.0β.

3. Enhanced File-Sharing Capabilities

  • More Flexibility with “Upload” and “Access Ticket” Functions

ServersMan®4.0β makes it easier to exchange large files by enabling iPhones and Android phones to access and download files directly, thus eliminating the need to use complicated third-party cloud storage services.

  • Upload Function

Registered friends can upload files directly to users’ iPhone or Android phone from the web by entering ID and password.

Recently, the size of pictures and movies has grown significantly, which made file uploading more difficult and requires some sort of cloud storage solutions. Most of current applications follow the scenario below;

1. Your friend needs to upload files to a cloud storage service first,

2. Then he informs you about files by an e-mail for example,

3. Finally, you have to download files from a cloud storage service.

FreeBit renovated the top screen of ServersMan to improve usability of iPhone/iPod touch, offering optimized touch operation for extremely simple user interface.

4. A file manager for iPhone must be downloaded and launched in order to download files from third-party cloud storage services.

ServersMan®4.0β greatly simplifies the above process:

1. Your friend uploads files to ServersMan.com

2. A notification is displayed on your iPhone or Android phone and files are automatically downloaded to the phone.

  • Access Ticket Function (iPhone only)

Users can share selected files on their iPhones. After an access ticket is issued for chosen files, users can inform their friends about files being shared. In consequence, friends can download those files directly from iPhone by entering their ID and password.

This process enables iPhone file sharing between you and your friends without a need for third-party cloud storage services.

4. Open API Enables Development of iPhone and Android/Web Applications Compatible With ServersMan®

ServersMan® M2M API ver. 0.1 is open to the public on a trial basis.
(API list)

  • Folder list acquisition
  • File upload and download
  • Location information acquisition
  • Message transmission
  • Music information acquisition (iPhone only)
  • Virtual IPv6 address acquisition
  • Vibration

These APIs enable ServersMan® equipped devices to use secure P2P communication, mashups, and to directly access the web using simple html and JavaScript. These functions allow users to easily develop applications utilizing P2P communication between iPhones or Android phones, exchange of location information as well as games using motion sensors that previously required complex programs.

It also became possible to develop Native applications using API by acquiring a ServersMan® license. We have already begun promoting a license business in China. Furthermore these APIs can be used to customize public pages (Public_html) of ServersMan®.

5. ServersMan® Intelligent CDN (Server Cache Function)

The largest drawback concerning portable servers occurs in times of highly concentrated access, and when servers are off-line. ServersMan® Intelligent CDN (SIC) was developed to resolve these issues.

What is SIC:

– Responds when ServersMan® is off-line,

– Reduces the load by caching files from publicly accessible areas.

6. Simple User Interface

The top screen was completely updated to improve usability of iPhone/iPod touch. It offers optimized touch operation for extremely simple user interface.

7. iOS 4.3; AirPlay/AirPrint-Compliant

Now users are able to stream contents from iPhone or iPod touch to HDTV in their living rooms via Apple TV (ServersMan®@iPhone4 supports iPhones’ component cable output). AirPlay enables users to wirelessly stream files from a PC or NAS (CAS) to larger screens in a smart way. Additionally, AirPrint enables users to wirelessly print documents like PDF files.

8. Others

  • Compatible with a Wide Range of Functions Provided by iOS 4.3

In order to allow interaction between various applications for iPhone and iPod touch that was not previously possible, now users are able to store data files including mail attachments and other applications on ServersMan®.
