SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today at VMworld 2010, Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, announced the immediate availability of a free and paid version of Wyse PocketCloud for Android. Wyse PocketCloud for Android is available in the Android Market and will be available for viewing at VMworld 2010 along with demonstrations of the latest cloud computing and desktop virtualization hardware and software solutions at Booth #521.

“As the progress of virtualization has helped make cloud computing possible, the opportunities for the mobile user are nearly limitless”

Originally released for the iPhone in August 2009, Wyse PocketCloud has become a top 10 app for mobile professionals. Wyse PocketCloud is a remote desktop app that has already been installed by more than 110,000 users since it was introduced at VMworld 2009. It enables end users to access files, desktop, and applications on any physical or virtualized infrastructure via a choice of protocols. Wyse PocketCloud is VMware Ready™ Certified for VMware View™ for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and now Android-powered devices. It also integrates seamlessly into a pre-existing VMware View™ environment and does not require special setup or software installed.

“Remote desktop access has long been an essential component of IT strategy,” according to Vittorio Viarengo, vice president, End User Computing Products, VMware. “With the introduction of PocketCloud for Android phones, in addition to the apps already available for the iPhone and iPad, Wyse has teamed with VMware View™ to make remote access an anytime/anywhere proposition.”

A public beta of Wyse PocketCloud for Android has been available for just over 45 days and has quickly moved up in the rankings of the Android Market as one of the Top 30 applications.

“I’ve been using Wyse PocketCloud with my Motorola Droid and couldn’t be more satisfied,” according to Wesley Baker, Virtualization Architect with Jewelry Television. “Like many of us in the IT industry, I’m on call almost all the time. Having Wyse PocketCloud on my phone means that I don’t have to carry around a heavy laptop or scramble to find a hot spot. Wyse PocketCloud makes remote access very simple and ties into our VMware View implementation perfectly.”

Wyse PocketCloud provides secure mobile display and control of physical or virtual instances of Microsoft Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Remote Desktop Services, and Terminal Services features in Windows Server products. Based on the overwhelming demand for the public beta Wyse is introducing a free version of Wyse PocketCloud on Android and is releasing the paid version of Wyse PocketCloud under promotional pricing.

“As the progress of virtualization has helped make cloud computing possible, the opportunities for the mobile user are nearly limitless,” according to Daniel Barreto, GM, Mobile Cloud Business Unit at Wyse. “With the introduction of Wyse PocketCloud for Android we enable a whole new group of users to gain the benefits of cloud client computing.”
