Customers willing to accept lower trade-in prices for guaranteed service delivery; new iPhone app makes it easier to compare prices from trustworthy recyclers with minimal effort and reduced risk

LONDON – TUESDAY 30 NOVEMBER 2010 – A poll conducted by Mobile Phone Recycling (www.mobilephonerecycling.co.uk) has found that while many mobile trade-in comparison services concentrate solely on finding the best deals based on price, 68 percent of consumers would actually place greater emphasis on quality assurance and reliability of service when it comes to recycling their mobile phones. Many comparison sites aggressively advertise the ability to find the best prices for old handsets, however the research suggests that consumers would be willing to accept slightly lower payouts for a guaranteed service. The poll coincides with the launch of the first free iPhone app that enables customers to quickly and conveniently compare up-to-the minute mobile trade in prices from trustworthy websites.

With high profile mobile phone launches each year, and mobile operators offering regular upgrades to loyal customers, the number of redundant handsets is rising sharply. While most people tend to sell them on or pass them onto others for better use, a staggering number of mobile phones are simply left lying around the home with owners unaware of what to do with them. As the mobile recycling market has matured, consumers are increasingly turning to comparison services to find the best deals for their old mobile phones. However, in this highly unregulated market, there is often a toss up between those companies offering the best price and those companies offering the highest level of service.

“Over the years, we have watched the mobile phone recycling market become very crowded, which has led to a pretty confusing landscape for consumers and a great opportunity for comparison services,” said Charlie Lavender, Founder of Mobile Phone Recycling. “Unfortunately, with some very questionable amateur mobile recycling websites entering the market, the number of consumers reporting negative experiences has also risen. The problem with a lot of comparison sites is that they indiscriminately compare every single mobile recycler on the market in the search for the best deals, with little concern for reliability or security. As a result, many consumers unfortunately lose out on both counts – sometimes receiving reduced payments, delayed payments, or no payment at all. That’s where we are different.”

Mobile Phone Recycling was launched two years ago as the first and only website that allowed customers to scan and compare real-time prices across the UK’s leading mobile trade-in companies – without having to search through numerous websites. The company has a strong focus on quality, and makes regular checks to ensure that its customers are delivered results from only the most reputable, reliable and secure mobile recycling companies in the country, including Envirofone, Fonebank, Mazuma Mobile, Mobile Phone Xchange, Money 4 Ur Mobile and MoPay.

“If you are sending something as valuable as an iPhone for recycling it’s safe to assume that you’d want guaranteed payment of the agreed amount – within the agreed timeframe,” continued Lavender. “It can be tempting to simply go for any company offering the most cash, but consumers need to consider the potential risk when doing so, and it should be the duty of comparison sites to make sure their customers are not exposed to these poor performing websites. We pride ourselves on only offering results from those companies that we feel offer the highest levels of customer care, a reliable service and the best prices around.”

To make the trade-in process even simpler for consumers, Mobile Phone Recycling ’s new iPhone app enables users to search real-time prices that approved, best-of-breed companies are offering for their old handsets – without worrying about site trustworthiness or dubious terms and conditions.

The iPhone app is available to download for free from iTunes now. Mobile Phone Recycling also plans to launch it for other mobile platforms including Android, BlackBerry and Windows, enabling even more consumers to compare mobile trade-in prices on the move.
